President Biden has publicly defended his recent characterization of China's President Xi Jinping as a "dictator," as per a report by Aljazeera.

Biden addressed his recent remarks amid his joint press conference with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, June 22. Earlier this week, he blurted out his "dictator" comment during his campaign fundraiser in California.

According to the Associated Press, Biden's remarks about the Chinese leader triggered a new rift between the two countries after China formally slammed the US President's comments. It is worth noting that Biden commented a few days after the Secretary of State Antony Blinken officially visited Beijing to improve the communications between the two giant nations.

But despite that, the US President reassured the nation that his remarks would have no adverse effect on the delicate balance of US-China relations. He maintained his characterization of Xi, saying that his recent statements are "just not something [I am] going to change very much."

He further disclosed that he is meeting the Chinese President, which he likened to a "dictator," soon. The US leader says, "I expect to be meeting with President Xi sometime in the future, near-term."

BEIJING, CHINA - DECEMBER 04: Chinese President Xi Jinping (R) shake hands with U.S Vice President Joe Biden (L) inside the Great Hall of the People on December 4, 2013 in Beijing, China. U.S Vice President Joe Biden will pay an official visit to China from December 4 to 5.

As CNN reports, hours before Biden downplayed his recent remarks against the Chinese President, the embassy of China in Washington slammed the "dictator" statement of the US leader. Chinese Ambassador Xie Feng told the US State Department and White House officials that the US should step up to reverse what Biden has said.

He tells them that Washington needs to "take earnest actions to undo the negative impact of Biden's characterization of Xi. If not, the Chinese Ambassador warned that Biden will face the "consequences."

Moreover, he adds, "With the latest irresponsible remarks about China's political system and its top leader, people cannot help but question the sincerity of the US side." And on top of that, he strongly stressed that China "do not accept any political provocation against China's top leader and resolutely respond."

Yet, Biden believes that his recent comment calling Xi a "dictator" has no "any real consequences," he noted during his joint press conference with the Indian PM. Instead, he dismissed criticisms that the US-China relations are scrambling as mere "hysteria."
