Apple 2 in 1 devices had been wanted by people nowadays due to Microsoft’s innovations. After introducing the Smart Keyboard for iPads, Apple seems to want to replace laptops with iOS devices. Hence, the Cupertino-based company was discovered to file a patent that transforms iOS devices into laptops.

According to Digital Trends, the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office showed a dock dubbed as an “Electronic accessory device” placed in the trackpad of a laptop or MacBook. The iOS device is then placed on the dock allowing it to connect to the main device. Hence, both devices could share memory and files with the main device.

Meanwhile, if an iPhone is placed into the dock, the smartphone is said to become the trackpad. If an iPad is docked into the laptop, the iPad’s screen is mentioned in the patent to become the display. Hence, a touch-screened MacBook or laptop expands and extends the usefulness of a device. The transformed version then would make people be more productive in terms of using the iOS devices and the main device as a 2 in 1 notebook as suggested.

“The accessory device, however, can provide auxiliary processing resources, such a graphical processing unit, or GPU, or other processing resources that can support the functions of the portable computing device,” the patent stated per Cult of Mac.

Recent rumors also suggest that Samsung would also release a dock in the upcoming release of its Samsung Galaxy S8. The dock is also said to transform Samsung device into laptops along with a cooling fan as well.

Yet, the possibility for the Apple iOS device transformation patent to be made into reality is still unknown since it was mentioned to be published last September 16. Thus, making it a recent patent that Apple is still exploring.
