The Cleveland Cavaliers is the second most favorite team to win the NBA title this year behind the NBA superteam Golden State Warriors. They are a clear favorite to win the Eastern Conference and is bound to meet the Warriors once again in the NBA Finals next year.

This season, the Cavaliers are having an impressive start of the season. At 10-2 win-loss record, the Cavaliers are first in the Eastern Conference and has a 1.5 games ahead of second place Atlanta Hawks. They only lost to the Hawks and the Pacers.

The Cavs' Big Three are performing well as usual. LeBron James is averaging almost triple-double with 23.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 9.0 assists. Kyrie Irving is tallying 24.0 points and 5.0 assists per contest. Kevin Love is also having an outstanding season as he is averaging double-double with 20.3 points and 11.0 rebounds.

But the Cavs is said to be in the lookout for a backup point guard. And according to Cleveland, the Cavs might be interested to acquire Deron Williams from the Dallas Mavericks.

Williams is drafted as the 3rd overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz. In his 11 years in the league, he average 16.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 8.3 assists in 781 games. He is a three-time NBA All-Star, two-time All-NBA Second Team and two-time Olympic Gold medalist with Team USA, as per Wikipedia.

In his six games with the Mavericks this NBA season, Williams is playing decently averaging 12.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. But the Mavs are having a bad start of the season.

At 2-11 win-loss record, the Mavs are the worst in the league. They lost 6 in a row. Dirk Nowitzki's absence because of injury is probably a big reason for Mavs' early struggle. But because of this, giving away veteran guard Williams to other championship contender might be a possibility.

However if ever the Cavs acquiring Williams will push through, December 15 might be the earliest date. Because this is the time that players who signed a contract in the offseason will be eligible to trade.
