Three hundred JetBlue flights flying out of New York's JFK and LaGuardia Airports, New Jersey's Newark Airport and Boston's Logan Airport have been cancelled as the polar vortex engulfs the northeast, CBS News reported.

All flights will be stopped by 5 p.m. Monday and will resume on Tuesday afternoon, leaving a 17 hour no fly period leaving millions of travelers stranded or scrambling for another flight, according to CBS.

According to a statement posted on JetBlue's blog, "millions of air travelers [are] displaced," and are trying to book flights on "planes already full with previously booked holiday travelers," causing major overbooking.

"We intend to be 100-percent operational by 3 p.m. (Tuesday). This plan allows for 17 hours of rest for our equipment and crew members and time to service aircrafts," JetBlue said in the statement.

JetBlue also warned "some customers aren't seeing available seats for nearly a week" but the company is issuing refund and rebooking options.

Numerous JetBlue flights have been delayed or cancelled since Friday because of extreme snow and freezing temperature, cancelling a total of 3,000 flights across the industry, according to JetBlue.

Aside from the weather related issues aiding mass cancellations of flights, Federal Aviation Administration rules on the amount of rest pilot and crew members are required to have also played a part, CBS reported.

According to their blog, the flight cancellations "allows for 17 hours of rest for crews, and time for Tech Ops to service the aircraft."

"JetBlue is committed to operating safely; further cancellations are possible. We regret the impact to our customers," the company said in a statement, CBS reported.
