Sri Lanka will take on Afghanistan in the fourth of World T20 main draw at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday.

The Kolkata T20 is the second match of the Super 10 Group 1, which also includes England, the West Indies and South Africa. England faces the West Indies in the opening T20 of the group at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday night.

Afghanistan, an International Cricket Council (ICC) associate nation, qualified for WT20 main round after beating ICC full time member Zimbabwe in its final qualifying round match on Saturday. Batting first, Afghanistan made 186 for six in 20 overs. Brilliant batting performances from Mohammad Nabi (52), Samiulla Shenwari (43) and Mohammad Shahzad (40) powered Afghanistan to post the massive total on scoreboard. Zimbabwe, in reply, were all out for 127 in 20th over. Afghan leg spinner Rashid Khan's three wicket haul destroyed Zimbabwe's middle order.

The defending champions Sri Lanka would like to end their recent losing streak with a triumph against Afganistan. The Angelo Mathews-led side also wants to forget the recent Asia Cup debacle and are keen to get back to winning ways. Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga, who recently stepped down as skipper, remained doubtful for his side's opening WT20 match. He is reportedly recovering from a knee injury.

"It's unfortunate that Malinga is not fit as yet, so we had to take that call, but he's a very important person in our team. So we kept him in the squad hoping he would be fit to play our first game [on March 17]. We want him to rest and recover properly," skipper Angelo Mathews said.
