India will take on New Zealand in the opening match of the main round of the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup 2016 on Tuesday at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.

India, New Zealand, Australia, Pakistan and Bangladesh will play each other in Super 10 Group 2, while South Africa, the West Indies, England, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will take on each other in Super 10 Group 1 of the ICC World T20. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-final.

The hosts are favorites to win the title because of home condition advantage. They won the inugural World T20 in 2007. "India will be favorites, I'm sure about that. But we have to play good cricket consistently for a month. If we can do that, I'm sure we will get what we want," Indian opener Rohit Sharma said.

"When you are playing in front of your home crowd, there's always a lot of pressure. But at the same time you enjoy that feeling of being at home. The conditions are homely, there is that happiness around you," he replied when asked about pressure of being host.

The New Zealand team, which is led by batsman Kane Williamson, will be facing its first major tournament without their recently retired skipper Brendon McCullum.

"McCullum, obviously was an aggressive player, but we've got a good balanced side and everyone has that aggressive nature and can kind of follow in his footsteps there," spinner Mitchell Santner said. "We've got a reasonably balanced side in all aspects and that's the nature of our game to play aggressive and I think that will continue through the tournament."
