The New Zealand women's cricket team is looking to start its WT20 campaign with a triumph against struggling Sri Lankan women's squad.

"Black Caps have won the World Cup and we want to annex the World T20. We have been preparing our team well for this World T20," NZ skipper Susie Bates said. "The experience we gained from playing against Australia before coming here was vital. We have made the finals in the earlier World T20 tournaments and we have prepared ourselves well for winning the Cup this time. We have the confidence and momentum to do that."

The Sri Lankan women' skipper Shashikala Siriwardene, who injured during a WT20 warm-up game against India, remained doubtful about their opening Group A match.

"The MRIs are clear and it's getting better. But, whether I will play or not (in the first match), the decision will be taken tomorrow," Siriwardene said on Monday. "We did well against India as well in Ranchi, but didn't perform to our full potential. We had rested our best left-arm spinner and two others, but we'll play our full-strength squad tomorrow."
