Microsoft seems to be driven in improving user experience on its core apps for iOS and Android devices, with the tech giant announcing an update to its Outlook app on Wednesday, revamping the application with a number of innovative and convenient features, according to Engadget.

One of the most notable upgrades to the app is a new Outlook feature that allows users to initiate a Skype video conference through the Outlook app itself.

What's particularly convenient for users is that even if other people on the meeting do not have the Skype app on their devices, the Outlook app would allow users to participate in the video conference anyway, using Microsoft's Skype for Web, reports PC World.

Apart from the Skype integration, Outlook's calendar view has been significantly improved as well, with integrated Sunrise Calendar features and the ability to view a quick side-by-side look at any three days on the calendar. Users would also have the option to select the day their weekly calendars start on.

A number of features for the iOS version of the device were also included, such as Outlook's utilization of Apple's 3-D Touch technology to send emails and add calendar events directly from a device's home screen, according to Tech Times.

Android users, on the other hand, are set to enjoy quick access to their mail, contacts, calendar, and files through the use of a dedicated quick navigation bar located at the bottom of the Outlook app.

The updates to Outlook have been set to roll out starting Jan. 13.
