Microsoft has announced a number of significant upgrades to its core Office apps for Android users, with a number of notable features, updates and improvements set to be applied towards its Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint mobile apps, according to Android Central.

Released last year for the Android platform, Microsoft's Office apps provide users with an efficient and familiar user experience in their mobile devices. With the update, however, user experience is set to improve even more, helmed by a feature that allows users to sign up for a free Microsoft account from within the app itself.

Word for Android is now equipped with Smart Lookup, a feature that allows users to get relevant information such as definitions and pictures from the Internet on the Word window. Apart from this, the highlighter is also now customizable, with users being able to change the color with which to highlight their text, reports NDTV.

Excel, for its part, now gives users the ability to instantly modify how a table looks. Pasting formulas to each cell is also a lot easier now, with users being given a number of useful and pertinent Paste options.

PowerPoint for Android has also become a lot more capable in terms of multimedia, enabling users to play embedded media files in presentations that are being viewed through the app, according to UberGizmo.

Sharing options for all three core Office apps have been improved as well, with users being able to share Word, Excel and PowerPoint files directly through WeChat and QQ. The updated versions of Microsoft Office for Android are now available for download in the Google Play Store free of charge.
