Kaley Cuoco started off her New Years with a broken heart. The actress, who plays Penny on "The Big Bang Theory," announced on Instagram that her beloved dog Petey died.

"Anyone who knows me, knows Petey. He was basically the first dog I ever had...I was gifted him on my sweet 16, by my bf at the time...I was afraid I would get into trouble so I hid him in my bedroom for 3 days until my parents found out," the 30-year-old actress began her post alongside an adorable collage of photos featuring her with her cherished pet over the years.

"They said I had to take care of him if I was to keep him, that he would be mine! I was so excited!! When I moved out of my parents' house at 17, I had plans to take him with me but he had stolen my parents' hearts and they wouldn't let me! Here we are 15 years later."

Cuoco added, "My folks gave him the greatest life and he taught us what it meant to love an adoption pup. I have since named my corporation after him (peteypie inc) and he has brought a lifetime of joy and laughs to our entire family. I know he will now enjoy doggie heaven where there will be an abundance of greenies just for him. This little guy, I will never ever forget..."

Petey's passing comes on what would've been Cuoco and her soon-to-be ex-husband Ryan Sweeting's two-year wedding anniversary. The two married on New Years Eve in 2013 but announced their divorce 21 months later, as previously reported by HNGN.

Cuoco cited irreconcilable differences as her reason behind their split. Rumors surfaced that she was forced to end her marriage to the Tennis pro because of his addiction to painkillers and his personal struggle "turned their marriage into a nightmare," according to the Daily Mail.

"Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting have mutually decided to end their marriage," Cuoco's rep told People. "They ask for privacy at this time. No further statement will be issued regarding this matter."
