Two people of Syrian origin suspected to be involved in the illegal manufacture and transport of explosives and toxic gases have been arrested in Switzerland, authorities said Saturday. They were arrested in the greater Geneva area Friday and charged on Saturday.

"The two suspects arrested Friday were accused of the manufacture, concealment and transport of explosives and toxic gases," the Swiss prosecutors said in a statement, according to Al Jazeera.

"They are also under suspicion of violating Swiss law prohibiting groups like Al-Qaeda, Islamic State and similar organizations," they added. However, the identities of suspects were not revealed.

Swiss authorities have been searching for four ISIS-linked jihadists as a part of a probe into a terror plot in Geneva. However, authorities have not confirmed whether Friday's arrests were linked to the probe, Voice of America reported.

"Investigators still have to determine the link between the two suspects and the traces of explosives found in their vehicle," Geneva prosecutor Olivier Jornot told reporters, according to CNN. "The presence of such evidence does not mean that the two were involved in transporting explosives in the vehicle, and they claimed that they had acquired the vehicle recently."

Geneva remained on high alert as authorities continue the hunt for terror suspects in the wake of recent ISIS-inspired attacks in Paris, which left 130 people dead.
