Bryan Johnson, a former Massachusetts police officer who was fired for allegedly fabricating a shootout and making hoax bomb threats that triggered a town-wide lockdown and prompted a search for an active gunman earlier this year, was found dead at his residence in Millis on Thursday, according to the Norfolk District Attorney's Office.

"No signs of foul play were found at the scene. The death is not currently being investigated as a homicide. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has accepted the case for autopsy," said Peggie Krippendorf, a spokeswoman for the District Attorney, according to CBS Boston.

In September, Johnson filed a police report stating that he was involved in a shootout with an unidentified gunman during which he lost control of his police cruiser and crashed it before it caught fire. However, authorities found that the 24-year-old had fabricated the incident following an investigation, as HNGN previously reported.

Johnson was indicted before a grand jury on Nov. 19 on charges including willful communication of a bomb threat to a school, making a false police report, malicious destruction of property and unlawful discharge of a firearm, and was facing a prison sentence of more than 40 years if found guilty, according to CBS News
