UPDATE 8:22 p.m. EDT: Shannon Lamb, who was considered a person of interest in the shooting death of Ethan Schmidt, has now been upgraded to a suspect, according to the Associated Press.

In addition, he is also the suspect of for the death of an unnamed woman who was found dead in her home 300 miles away in Gautier.

"We're working right now under the assumption that both events are related," Gautier police spokesman Matthew Hoggatt said. "We hope that they are not. But at this point in time, information indicates that they probably are linked in some way, shape or form."

Authorities are currently searching for a black 2011 Dodge Avenger that Lamb is believed to be driving.

UPDATE 4:14 p.m.: A person of interest in the shooting death of Professor Ethan Schmidt, has been ID'd as DSU employee Shannon Lamb, according to ABC News.

Lamb is still at large, and, according to authorities, may not be on campus anymore.
The connection between Schmidt and Lamb, if any, is currently unknown. 

UPDATE 3:43 p.m.: The victim of the shooter has been identified as Professor Ethan Schmidt, according to Delta State University.

Faculty, staff and students who have been cleared from academic buildings are being moved to Sillers Coliseum. Campus administrators are working to bring food, water and counselors to the same location as well.

In the meantime, remaining students, faculty and staff have been instructed to remain indoors and wait until authorities can escort them.

A lockdown was ordered at Mississippi's Delta State University Monday after reports of an active shooter emerged on campus at around 10:40 a.m.

The alert indicates that the shooter is in the area of Jobe Hall, marked as building 33 on the campus map.

So far an unidentified teacher is the only victim of the gunman, who remains unnamed, reported CBS's Memphis affiliate WREG. He was carried off in an ambulance and has been confirmed dead by the university's Twitter.

"Delta State University has confirmed one fatality," Delta State University said in a statement. "Campus remains under lockdown. Please stay inside and away from windows." 

Mississippi Highway Patrol, Cleveland Police and Bolivar County Sheriff's Department are on the scene searching for the suspect who remains at large.
