Activision, one of the companies behind the popular "Call of Duty" franchise, particularly the upcoming "Call of Duty: Ghosts" title, has fired a few warning shots in the direction of Rockstar Games' latest success story, "Grand Theft Auto V." The game broke seven Guinness World Records for its release, but Activision is telling the company not to get too comfortable with those records.

In a recent interview with MCV, UK senior brand manager Kevin Flynn dismissed the idea that "Call of Duty" is in its decline arguing that the release of "Call of Duty: Ghosts" will breathe new life into the franchise and remind other companies, like its new competitor Rockstar, that Activision is still at the top of the game developing food chain.

"Congratulations to the team at Rockstar for their success," he said. "We look forward to getting the record back before the next GTA title. We know that our unaided awareness for Ghosts is leading the way against other unreleased triple-A titles. Our digital content has proven extremely popular and Black Ops II has sold more than 3m units in the UK."

IGN reported earlier this month that "Grand Theft Auto V" dethroned the "Call of Duty" franchise in the UK as the fastest and highest selling game. "Call of Duty: Ghosts" will give Activision another chance to take a swing at Rockstar and regain its position as the best selling game on the market. It is due out on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U on November 5. It will launch soon after on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One once the next-gen consoles launch.
