Yahoo has revamped its web-based email service with an elegant interface to celebrate its 16th birthday.

Yahoo continues to revamp. This time it is for a reason, Yahoo Mail has completed 16 years in business and CEO Marissa Mayer has decided to give it an overhauled look on turning "sweet 16." The move is one of many attempts by the company's CEO is bringing Yahoo back into the limelight.

Yahoo announced Tuesday that the online email service will get a refreshed look, designed for more efficiency and user-friendly interface. The remodeled Yahoo Mail will be available on desktop for users in U.S., Canada, U.K., Philippines, Malaysia, India, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa, and on Android and iOS mobile devices across the globe.

The new email interface is focused on providing users with a simple way to access all conversations in a threaded format. In addition, options like starring, deleting are simplified. Users can hover over an email and select the necessary action.

Yahoo promises the new look will be more efficient and elegant with innovative abilities, aiming at winning over Gmail users. The transition for Gmail users wouldn't be a major one as the overhauled look is almost similar to world's most popular Google's web-based email interface. After all, Mayer designed some of the features for Gmail when she worked as a top executive at Google.

Like the latest redesigned "My Yahoo" homepage, Mail users also get wide customization options. Users can choose an attractive theme or select from the company's wide photo library, Flickr, to decorate the inbox. Once a change is applied on the desktop, the same will automatically be updated on the mobile email app.

Besides the new look, Yahoo Mail is also added new features that have long been exclusive to premium Mail Plus customers. "Disposable email addresses, enhanced filters and automatic message forwarding are now available for everyone," Senior Vice President of Yahoo Communication Products, wrote in a blog post, adding that users will be getting a "monstrous amount of storage, 1TB (that's 1,000 GBs), so you have ample space for all your emails and attachments. It sure beats one of those annoying noisemakers."

Yahoo has come a long way since Marissa Mayer stepped up as the company's CEO in July last year. "My Yahoo" homepage got a fresh look and a beautiful design with more customizable options for desktop, smartphone and tablets and several changes to its search engine including a changed logo. Mayer is full of surprises and we can expect a lot more to come in the future.
