The North Carolina Central University had been momentarily placed under lockdown after one student was shot and injured. The student was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.

The university officials noted that the incident happened at the campus border in Durham, N.C. at around 11 p.m. EDT, Fox News reported. The university tweeted alerts and advised students to lock their doors and stay away from the area of the gunfire.

The shooting took place on East Lawson Street, which is close to Alston Avenue, where the campus stadium and parking deck are located. The shooter is still at large and is still being pursued, according to Durham police, WNCN reported. University police lifted the school lockdown at 11:55 p.m.
