An inmate from the Colorado State Penitentiary assaulted convicted movie theater shooter James Holmes and a security officer on Oct. 8, officials from the Colorado Department of Corrections revealed.

The incident occurred during an "offender movement," when inmate Mark Daniels, 27, reportedly "lunged and took a few swings at Holmes in passing," according to The Denver Post.

Holmes was not injured during the assault, said Adrienne Jacobson, the spokesperson for the Colorado Department of Corrections, according to Reuters.

The security officer, who was escorting Holmes down the hallway and got in between the two inmates during their scuffle, was also not injured.

As a result of assaulting both Holmes and the security officer, Daniels will face charges for internal assault with a code of penal discipline, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Holmes was inside a Management Hall Unit, where he is permitted to stay for four hours a day. At the moment, there are no other inmates in his cellblock, according to the Associated Press.

Holmes is currently serving multiple life sentences for killing dozens of people at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., during the screening for the film "The Dark Knight Rises" in 2012. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole in August and was sent to the CPS in September.
