South Africa is currently 2-1 in the ODI series. The tourists, who defeated India by 18 runs in third ODI played at Rajkot, are eyeing victory in the Chennai game to claim the five-match series.

Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni admitted the failure of middle order in previous games and said that he was struggling to find balance in the batting order.

"At times, I felt the Indian batting line-up becomes quite rigid... when you bat down the order, you get to know what the difficulties are. I won't say it's easy to bat up the order, but you always have the cushion of three or four batsmen behind you, so you know you can play your big shots," he said, according to Independent Online.

"There's a lot of confusion when it comes to the media side, because they want me to bat at four, but they want Virat to bat at three and they want Jinx (Rahane) to bat at four. It's not really possible, there are only two slots and only three batsmen," he added.

South Africa is also struggling to find a balance in batting line up, particularly with an allrounder spot in the squad.

"Under these conditions, JP fits the allrounder role well because he is able to bowl a good number of overs. We have been grappling with that allrounder spot and under these conditions he is the perfect guy for us, so that's a big loss for us," South Africa coach Russell Domingo said, according to Cricinfo.
