South Africa won the first and opening match of the ODI series against India in Kanpur on Oct.11. Skipper AB de Villiers's century overshadowed Indian batsman Rohit Sharma's 150 runs as Proteas snatched five run win from India in 50th over.

"It was a fantastic innings from Rohit. It wasn't an easy wicket to bat on. He made it look very easy. We lost Ashwin's six overs, which was crucial because he is our best bowler. The plan was working beautifully until then," Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni tweeted.

India's lead spinner Ravicharan Ashwin has been ruled out of second ODI due to side strain injury during the Kanpur match, the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) said. Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh replaced him in the ODI squad for the second ODI.

"R. Ashwin has sustained a left side strain type injury during the first Paytm One day International against South Africa on Oct. 11. After making a detailed assessment of the injury, the BCCI medical team will confirm the time frame required for Ashwin to fully recover from the injury," it said, according to Press Trust of India.

International Cricket Council (ICC) fined South African skipper for slow over rate in Kanpur match, an official statement said. "De Villiers pleaded guilty to the offense and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing," the ICC said.
