A man was shot by a security guard at Union Station in Washington, D.C., Friday. The man allegedly stabbed a woman, presumed to be his girlfriend, to precipitate the shooting, according to CNN.

Both the man and woman are being treated for their injuries, said the D.C. police. Spokesperson Gwendolyn Crump told reporters that the security guard witnessed the man stab his girlfriend and then chased the suspect. The suspect then turned to the guard with the knife. The guard fired his weapon at that time.

Union Station was evacuated for a short time after the shooting. Capitol Police warned all congressional staff to stay away from the station, which is only a few blocks from the U.S. Capitol.

The shooting happened just before 1 p.m. Friday afternoon, near a McDonald's restaurant. The suspect does not have life-threatening injuries and neither does the stabbing victim, according to Fox News.

D.C. Police Commander Jeff Brown said the stabbing incident seems to be domestic in nature, according to ABC News. Union Station was open and operating normally again as of Friday evening.

Security everywhere in D.C. was heightened on Friday, the 14th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
