A 17-year-old Indian girl was allegedly imprisoned and raped by up to 27 men after she was lured to a hotel in Jaipur on Aug. 30, under the pretext of a job offer from a married couple who live in her neighborhood.

She met with the couple, identified only as Rocky and Rani, who lived nearby and had supposedly given jobs to several other women in Delhi-NCR and nearby cities, according to The Indian Express.

Upon taking her to the hotel, instead of helping her with a job, they left her alone in a room where she was gang-raped by 27 people, some of which were hotel staff. During her 24-plus hour ordeal, she was denied food and imprisoned inside a small room.

The girl eventually escaped and reported to police about the incident, reported the Daily Mail. Upon receiving her report, police arrested Rocky and Rani who confessed that their intention was to sell her.

In addition to the former two, a squad of police went down to Jaipur to arrest individuals identified as Mahesh, Anil, Arjun and Kamal, who not only worked in the hotel where the rape took place, but also participated in it.

As it turns out, according to one officer, the hotel has been suspected of engaging in shady business before.

"It also emerged that the same hotel was earlier raided by police as they suspected it was involved in running prostitution rackets," the officer said.

Despite the report of 27 people raping her, and 29 involved overall, police have only confirmed the involvement of 10 people and have made six arrests, according to India Today.

Police have registered the case under sections 372 (selling minor for purposes of prostitution, etc) and 376-2G (gang rape) of the IPC and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Additionally, "Police are also checking their records to ascertain if Rocky and Rani have criminal cases registered against them. Police are also trying to trace their earlier victims, if any," an officer said.

A search is ongoing for the other men confirmed to be involved in the assault. In the meantime, authorities are working to verify the reports of the other men involved.
