A routine traffic stop in Waco, Texas took a strange turn for officers when they found a loaded gun inside a suspect's vagina, after believing the only illegal thing the pair had was several grams of drugs.

The stop occurred around 11 p.m. when police spotted a 1998 Toyota Land Rover carrying a man and woman at North 15th Street and Blair Street for a traffic violation, according to the Waco Tribune.

During the stop, officers discovered 2.7 grams of methamphetamine under the driver's seat. Following the discovery, authorities arrested the driver, later identified as Gabriel Garcia, 30, on the possession of drugs within a drug free zone (they stop occurred near West Elementary School, a drug free zone), according to WFAA 8, an ABC affiliate.

The discovery prompted a full search of the vehicle and upon closer inspection, police discovered an additional 29.5 grams of methamphetamine and a set of digital weighing scales inside the female passenger's purse. Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton revealed, reported to CBS' Texas affiliate KWTX. The latest discovery prompted police to arrest the passenger, Ashley Cecilia Castaneda, 31, on the same charge.

On the way to McLennan County Jail, the event took an odd turn when Castaneda told officers that she was concealing a loaded pistol in her vagina, reported Breitbart News. Police called a for a female officer who removed a Smith and Wesson .22 caliber semiautomatic handgun from it's hiding spot. The handgun was found with a loaded round and a full magazine, it's unclear if the safety was on.

"It was a safety concern for the victim who had a loaded firearm inside her body," Swanton said. "Depending on a number of factors, that gun could have gone off by body movements or compression of the trigger.

Upon discovering the weapon, Castenda was also charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon.

Castenda and Garcia were placed in McLennan County Jail, and their bonds were set at $31,000 and $10,000, respectively.
