Ever since pop star Katy Perry released her chart-topping hit, "Roar," fans and critics alike have been pointing out that the first single off of her upcoming album, "Prism," sounds way too similar to Sara Bareilles's song, "Brave," to be a coincidence, but apparently Bareilles doesn't agree, according to the Washington Post.

In an interview with ABC News on Tuesday, Bareilles revealed that she was "stoked" for Perry following the sucess of her new song, which is currently No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and peaked at No. 1. Following accusations that "Roar" stole the melody from "Brave," which was released back in April, Bareilles's inspirational anthem reached No. 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieved gold status.

"I don't feel like anything was taken from me artistically. I wasn't the one having any problems with it," Bareilles said. "I've known Katy a long time. We are friends and she and I spoke about it. I look at it as two female artists who are releasing a message of empowerment." The 33-year old singer-songwriter explained that she was "disappointed at how aggressive fans were being about" the whole situation.

"I don't promote drama in my life and competition and stuff like that," she said.

"Brave" was co-written by fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff, the first single off of Bareilles's third album, "The Blessed Unrest," which she released in July. "Roar" was written by Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Cirkuit and Perry's best friend, Bonnie McKee, who was written a number of hits for the star. Unlike Perry's song, which is arguably applicable to a number of situations and circumstances, "Brave" was specificially written for a gay friend of Bareilles's.

"I had a good friend who was struggling with coming out as an adult, so this is sort of my message to that person," said the singer-songwriter.

As for whether or not the two singers will further bank off of the similarities in their songs with plinky piano chords and uplifting choruses, Bareilles revealed that there will likely be a collaboration between them onstage.

"We actually talked about it. We're like, 'Should we just work on a mash-up and let everybody know we're not mad at each other?'" she said with a laugh.

Bareilles is currently finishing up her tour with OneRepublic, and would love to write with the band's front-man, Ryan Tedder.

"Ryan and I have done a little bit of back and forth in the past, and nothing has come totally to fruition," Bareilles told ABC News. "I dunno - I think we probably have really compatible writing styles and I think he's such a brilliant writer. So, yeah, I would be really open to that."
