A gunman opened fire at a parking lot in Sacramento City College in California on Thursday afternoon, killing one and wounding two students, and now the police are on the hunt for the suspect.

One of the victims was immediately taken to a local hospital for injuries while the other one was only grazed by a bullet, but was questioned by investigators, Dustin Poore of Los Rios Police said, according to the San Francisco Gate.

The shooting started out with a verbal argument between a group of men when one of them suddenly pulled out a gun and opened fire.

The suspect, who has yet to be identified and was wearing cargo shorts and a white T-shirt, bolted from the scene and remains at large.

After the incident, the campus was placed on lockdown for two hours. Students were asked to stay inside the classrooms.

The police eventually cleared all the buildings inside the campus and allowed the students, teachers and school staff to leave, according to the Associated Press.

The shooting took place in the campus' parking area reserved for faculty and staff, located at its south end off Sutterville Road and close to its softball field.

Besides officers clearing every single campus building, a police helicopter had also circled directly above it throughout the rest of the afternoon until early evening.

Traci Trapani, the spokesperson for the Sacramento Police Department, said that the attack seemed to be an "isolated incident" instead of a "campus shooting spree," according to the Sacramento Bee.
