Two gunmen were reported to have opened fire Tuesday night near the University of Maryland campus, killing three people and wounding another. Initial reports revealed that the gunmen emerged from two light colored vans at the 900 block of W. Fayette St. in West Baltimore, just before 11 p.m. They proceeded to shoot two males and two females, immediately claiming one fatality, reported the Baltimore Sun.

New details about the shooting emerged early Wednesday when Detective Rashawn K. Strong confirmed that "a male and female were both transported to an area hospital where despite medical attempts, they succumbed to their injuries," while "the second male was pronounced deceased at the scene," according to NBC News. The fourth victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the back is already safe and in stable condition. She was said to have walked to the hospital seeking treatment for her injury, according to a Fox News report.

Authorities have not released further information about the incident as the local community reels from the recent news. Residents are already concerned with this development as it turned out to be the second shooting in the same area in five days. On July 2, police reported shots fired into a moving car, wounding its passenger from bullets that entered the vehicle, reported the Baltimore Sun.

The police are asking the public and the students to be aware of their surroundings and be cautious especially in the area where the shooting took place. They also ask those who have information on the incident to come forward or call Baltimore homicide detectives at 410-396-2100 as the investigation is currently ongoing.
