The duckface is definitely out. There's a new way to take better selfies and, according to New York photographer Peter Hurley, it's the trick used by many celebrities. It's called "squinching," which is a subtle way of squinting your eyes for the camera. So as not to look wide-eyed and awkward, the photographer suggests that one should, "lift and tighten your lower eyelids, and let the top ones come down just a fraction," in photos, according to WWD.

Famous squinchers include Cara Delavignge and Kendall Jenner, according to the Standard. On the other hand, Brad Pitt has that "natural squinch face," according to Sydney Morning Herald.

It's not as easy as it looks and it may take time mastering the style, but Hurley said that the squinch will help dial down the deer-in-headlights face some people express in photos.

The photographer talked about the squinch back in 2013, in this 15-minute video tutorial, where he carefully explains the difference between squinch and a squint.

The other good thing about squinching is that it doesn't cause any wrinkles or crow's feet, which refers to the lines around the eyes.

"Since it's an alternative to classic 'squinting', squinching seems to create less overall muscle contraction, and actually might spare you the etched in-lines that come from repetitive muscle movements like squinting," said Dr. Rachel Nazarian, a dermatologist, according to Marie Claire. "The trend calls for partial muscle relaxation. So, if anything, you'll only form half the lines you would normally."
