Anne Hathaway is on her way to the small screen. The 32-year-old Oscar-winning actress has signed on to star in and produce the limited series "The Ambassador's Wife," which is based on a newly released novel by Jennifer Steil.  The miniseries will focus on "the kidnapping of an American woman in the Middle East and the heartbreaking choices she and her husband each must make in the hope of being reunited," according to TheWrap.

The book was inspired by Steil's own personal journey as the wife of the British ambassador to Yemen. Hathaway is set to play Miranda, a bohemian artist who falls in love with Finn, the British ambassador.

"'The Ambassador's Wife' is an incredible story that pulls you in immediately and resonates with all of us based on the images and news headlines that are pervasive in our lives today," Gordon said in a statement. "We are so fortunate to have Anne starring in this timely, gripping and compassionate drama. She is in a league all her own and we cannot think of anyone who can better portray Steil's complex heroine."

The upcoming drama series is not yet attached to a network. Hathaway will work on the series alongside "Criminal Minds" producer Mark Gordon while Entertainment One has signed up to finance the series.

Anne Hathaway will next be seen opposite Robert De Niro in "The Intern," set to hit theaters Sept. 25.
