Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards has gone through a very public breakup with ex One Direction member Zayn Malik. Edwards' band was in the middle of celebrating their fourth anniversary at AOL in New York City on Wednesday when Edwards broke down in tears while she performed their new song "The End." Malik called off his engagement to the Little Mix singer earlier this month after he proposed two years ago.

The group preformed their new single, "The End," for the New York crowd and after Edwards sung the line, "And I won't be missing, missing you, and no one can love you, the way I used to do," she started to cry on stage, according to the Daily Mail. Edwards, 22, was immediately comforted by her band mates Jade Thirlwall, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jesy Nelson.

"It's been a long day, and we've had no sleep, so I think this is why this has happened. We're just very emotional," Nelson explained to the audience, PEOPLE reported.

The audience also tried to comfort the singer. "We love you, Perrie" was heard throughout the emotional moment.

Edwards had previously put on a good face throughout the very public breakup with Malik. "I'm good, thank you," Edwards replied when E! News asked how she was doing following the split.

Edwards' tears reflect reports that the singer "was devastated" when her fiancé broke off their engagement. "Her friends are rallying around her. She's doing fine," a source told E! News. "He hasn't treated her right for a long time."
