During a recent promotional trip to the U.S. for his band's new film "This Is Us!," One Direction heartthrob Zayn Malik was forced to defend his fiancée, Perrie Edwards, after a journalist prodded as to why the two are never seen together, EntertainmentWise reports.

"Where is that girl, we never see her?" the reporter asked during a Q&A session, to which Malik replied: "I see her a lot and that's obviously privately between me and her. Yeah we just got engaged and I'm really happy and that's about as much as I have to say about that."

Louis Tomilson was quick to jump to the defense of his bandmates, especially where rumors of their love lives were concerned.

"As far as our girlfriends being edited out, that's actually not true," he said to clear up the gossip. "When we have our free time, when we had a week at home or whatever the cameras wouldn't be with us then."

Malik proposed to Edwards on Aug. 18 after a weekend together, the two having initially met when One Direction gave a performance on the eigth season of "The X-Factor." The couple confirmed dating rumors in May, the third of Malik's "X-Factor" contestant girlfriends, and most recently, Edwards showed off her three-diamond engagement ring at the "This Is Us!" premiere in London.

Shortly after Malik proposed, he took to Twitter and wrote, "Never been more happy in my life ! Thank you to everyone that has been so lovely about my engagement to my beautiful fiancé ! Big love z X"

Though being the fiancée of a hunky superstar may sound like something out of a dream, Edwards has had to endure backlash from millions of jealous fans, including a fan who referred to her as "Satan," to which Edwards replied on Twitter, "Some people are just so cruel."

As for their upcoming wedding, a source recently revealed to Look magazine that "Perrie and Zayn are insanely happy, and their relationship's even stronger because they get on with each other so well. With that in mind, as well as looking into a church wedding, the pair are also discussing having a traditional Islamic ceremony, because Zayn's family are Muslim. [Perrie] loves the idea of coming down the aisle to traditional Muslim music. Flowers blessed with rosewater play a big part in Islamic weddings and Perrie thinks she could work this into their day, too."
