Taylor Swift and Kanye West finally buried the hatchet earlier this year, and their newfound friendship may have never come to fruition if not for Jay Z.

The reconciliation between the two megastars came almost six years after West stole the mic from Swift during her acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV VMAs. The "Shake It Up" singer needed to know West had found respect for her as an artist before she would forge a friendly relationship with him again.

"I feel like I wasn't ready to be friends with [West] until I felt like he had some sort of respect for me, and he wasn't ready to be friends with me until he had some sort of respect for me - so it was the same issue, and we both reach the same place at the same time," Swift told Vanity Fair.

The 25-year-old singer credited their mutual friend Jay Z for helping facilitate the friendship.

"I became friends with Jay Z, and I think it was important, for Jay Z, for Kanye and I to get along... And then Kanye and I both reach a place where he would say really nice things about my music and what I've accomplished and I could ask him how his kid's doing."

Swift and West surprised audiences as they were seen chatting and posing for pictures together at the 2015 Grammy Awards in February. A few days later, the duo reportedly met up for dinner in New York City and she spoke about possibly doing a song with him soon.
