One Direction surprised all of their fans as they released their first single since Zayn Malik left the group.

The single, called "Drag Me Down," dropped early Friday morning and seems to be part of the band's "new" sound. "Drag Me Down" is the first single off their future album, which is due out in November, according to Time.

The pop-rock track shifts the band's sound from the softer folk of their last album, "Four," back to the more upbeat, electronic heavy elements of their first two albums, Rolling Stone reported.

"Bit of a surprise! Check out our new single! It's called Drag Me Down & I hope you love it as much as we do," Liam Payne tweeted on Thursday.

"Drag Me Down" represents the start of a new era for the boy band after Zayn Malik left the group in March to be a "normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight." Malik made one shady move earlier this week, signing a new record deal with RCA records after claiming he left the band so he could lead a normal life.

"I guess I never explained why I left, it was for this moment to be given the opportunity to show you who i really am! #realmusic #RCA !!" Malik tweeted on Wednesday.

One Direction is currently touring in the U.S. and will perform in Indianapolis on Friday night. Check out the first single from their upcoming album below!
