Royal Baby: Kate Middleton and Prince William Leaving Hospital Today?

Reporters, photographers and fans of the royal family are waiting anxiously outside of St. Marys hospital in London for Kate Middleton and Prince William to walk out the doors with their newborn son, the Prince of Cambridge.

"I'm not going to miss this," a royal-family enthusiast told The Washington Post. "When they walk out that door, that will be our history."

And if reports are right, they might not have to wait much longer.

Several media outlets are reporting that the royal couple is expected to leave the hospital around 6 p.m., London time. According to The Daily Mail, the decision will be made by Marcus Setchell, Middleton's gynecologist. Depending on his assessment, their discharge could be postponed until tomorrow.

But when they do leave the hospital, what's next for the royal family?

According to USA Today, Middleton has set up a temporary nursery in Nottingham Cottage, a two-bedroom home on the Kensington Palace estate where Prince William was raised. The couple is then set to move into a four-level apartment in the palace that is currently undergoing $1.6 million in renovations.

In addition to the move, another major change is Prince William's anticipated exit from his job with the Royal Air Force Base in Wales. He's reportedly expected to leave the position to take on more royal duties in London.

"Any transition will be seamless. But this does signal a dramatic change for the younger royals," royals watcher Robert Johnson told London's Evening Standard. "William, who loves his work as a search-and-rescue pilot, will now have to focus more on royal duty and now looks certain to end his military career in September."

The couple is also expected to take their first official post-baby trip in 2014, with the little prince in tow.

Royal commentator Dickie Arbiter told USA Today, "They will do what's best for the child, and if there's minimal risk to taking baby on an overseas tour, that's what they will do."
