The perfectly named Mile High City is expecting an increase in tourism for the day universally set aside for pot smokers.

Denver's annual 420 marijuana celebration, which is happening the weekend leading up to Monday, April 20, has caused a spike in the amount of people booking hotels and traveling to the city, USA Today reported. The report cited both Hopper.com and Hotels.com as seeing more travelling plans being set to Denver than usual.

In 2014, the first year pot was legal for tourists in Colorado, the festival fell on Easter Sunday but still attracted "tens of thousands" of people and "a massive cloud of pot smoke" even appeared above the city.

Tyler Hanson, a data analyst for Hooper, told USA Today there's been a 36-percent increase in airline searches to Denver revolving around next weekend despite a usual downward trend this time of year because of the conclusion of ski season.

"What we're seeing here are more people than usual are trying to fly to Colorado on that Friday," he said. "You see a broad decline through March and early April ... except for this curious bump that's centered on the 17th of April."

As for what 420 actually means, this Huffington Post article explains the real story behind it, which contrary to popular belief has nothing to do with Adolf Hitler's birthday, Bob Dylan or the amount of chemicals in pot.
