The latest trailer for “Splinter Cell: Blacklist” hit the web Thursday, displaying Sam Fischer more deadly and efficient than ever.
In the latest installment of the “Splinter Cell” franchise, Fishcer will play a different role according to Polygon.com, citing a recent interview with Game Director Patrick Redding.
“Splinter Cell: Blacklist” features Fischer as the leader of Fourth Echelon. Therefore, his actions—especially the bad ones—will affect others.
"We wanted something that felt like it would be a challenge to him," Redding explained. "As a solo operative, a guy who's always been the lone wolf in the field, there isn't a lot that can be more challenging that being put in the role of leader. When you're on your own, you have your own resources. You have your own abilities, your own equipment, whatever it is that you can depend on. If you screw up, you only have yourself to blame, but you're also the only one to suffer for it."
In this installment, gamers will see the integration of the S.M.I.—or Strategic Mission Interface, where they will be allowed to select various missions. Also, there will be an economy system—an enhanced version of the Persistent Elite Challenges system used in “Splinter Cell: Conviction”—which combined with the S.M.I will provide consequences for the choices gamers make within the “Blacklist.”
The game also gages the relationships between Sam and his team. Following every mission, gamers will get statistics on how the in-game relationships have adjusted.
“Splinter Cell: Blacklist” will be available August 20 in North America. It will debut worldwide on August 23.
