In the just-released trailer for "Saving Mr. Banks," Tom Hanks makes history as the first actor ever to portray Walt Disney.

Equipped with Disney's signature mustache and a spiffy 60's-style wardrobe, Hanks takes on the famous mogul as he attempts to turn author P.L. Travers' "Mary Poppins," into an award-winning film. The problem? Travers, played by British actress Emma Thompson, isn't on board, and it's going to take a lot more than theme park rides, Mickey Mouse and magic dust to win over the stubborn scribe.

The film is based on the true story of Travers' efforts to show the oft-misguided Disney the real meaning behind the tale of the umbrella-toting nanny. In the heartwarming preview, we learn the book was actually based on Travers' life, and that the story's patriarch, who gives the new film its name, is actually a depiction of her father.

"She's the most difficult person I've ever played," Thompson told TIME of her role as Travers. "She was a woman of quite eye-watering complexity and contradiction."

Also joining the cast of the flick, which is set to hit theaters this winter, are Jason Schwartzman and B.J. Novak. They're getting laughs as the Sherman brothers; the songwriting team behind "Mary Poppins'" signature tunes like the silly "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious."

Other notable faces include Paul Giamatti, Bradley Whitford and Academy Award nominee Rachel Griffiths as Travers' Aunt Ellie, the rumored inspiration for Mary Poppins herself.

Also notable is the film's screenwriter, Kelly Marcel, who was recently tapped to participate in a slightly less family-friendly project. The British writer was picked by author E.L. James to work on the sexy screen adaptation of "Fifty Shades of Grey."

You can catch Hanks and the rest of the cast when "Saving Mr. Banks" floats into theaters on Dec. 13.
