Instagram Update for iOS: Landscape Image View and ‘Cinema’ Support for Front-Facing Cameras

Instagram updated its iOS app and made minor but relevant changes and enhancements. With the new version, Instagram can now properly maneuver landscape orientation both in video recording and photo capturing.

It should be remembered that when Instagram launched its video support in June, there were already issues with its landscape feature. The landscape mode was originally meant as a launching feature. However, Ken Yeung, reporter for Next Web, had seen the problem at an instant and had informed Instagram accordingly.

Harrison Weber, author for The Next Web too, echoed his remarks when he had a first look at the app and made a confirmation statement afterwards. In his statement, he declared that Instagram is not capable of flipping videos in the landscape mode. The issue has been described by Facebook as a bug which they promise to fix real soon.

Facebook has kept its promise. Now that the bug is fixed, Instagram is ready to face other bugs and welcome new features. One of these features is Cinema Support which is designed specifically for front-facing cameras. The feature’s release goes side by side with the release of Instagram’s updated Landscape mode.

Cinema is described by Instagram as a stabilization feature which it intends to use as a way to alienate itself from the growing video app competition. It should be noted that YouTube’s very own Capture app has a similar capacity which has been noticeable since the app’s launching.

The features of the new Instagram 4.0.2 include capturing photos or recording videos while holding the Instagram camera under the landscape mode, Cinema supporting with front-facing cameras, and several other improvements and bug problem solving.

The said update may just be a minimal update as compared to the previous ones released a few days ago by iOS. Apple’s mobile platform is lucky enough to get the first treatment. The app’s updated version can now be directly downloaded from the Apple's App Store.
