A report claims the next installment in the Samsung Galaxy Note series could arrive as soon as September, according to AndroidGeeks, citing a source.
Android Geeks says the insider puts the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 release on Sept. 4. The source said Samsung will be holding a Samsung Unpacked event in Berlin as a portion of the IFA 2013 expo. It will be an event only opened to the press.
The phone will make its debut on the first day of the IFA conference.
If this information is true, it does not come as a shock. Samsung would be following the same model it followed for the last two years. At the IFA conferences in 2011 and 2012 (which also took place in Berlin) the South Korea-based company announced the Samsung Galaxy Note and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 respectively.
This could be a smart move for Samsung since Apple may also be planning to copy its release business model from 2012, according to Dave Smith of the International Business Times.
Smith pointed to Apple’s iPhone 5 release method from last year in order to predict how the Cupertino-based company will release its iPhone 5s this year. Smith said in 2012 Apple announced the iOS 6 operating system on June 11 and released the operating system on September 19. The iPhone 5 came two days later on Sept. 21.
Since Apple CEO Tim Cook will most likely want to stick with the successful 2012 method of former CEO and Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, he will most do the same thing in 2013. The iOS 7 operating system was announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference on June 10. It will become available on Sept. 18. If Cook is following Job’s method the iPhone 5s will debut on Sept. 20. (Smith also discussed the possible release of the low-cost iPhone anywhere from Sept. 27 to Oct. 4.)
If these dates are true, although Samsung will have a head start in the month of September, the two companies are set for a fourth quarter smartphone battle.
