Twenty-two-year-old Paulina Vega of Colombia beat out more than 80 other gorgeous contestants to win the title of Miss Universe 2014, including Miss USA runner-up Nia Sanchez, who was highly predicted to win the competition.

Sure, we're all googly-eyed over her appearance, but who is she? What makes her unique?

1.     She comes from a well-known and BIG family.

Turns out her family is famous, but you'll never find an ounce of pompousness in this beauty queen. Vega has seven siblings, a mix of brothers and sisters, and is the granddaughter of legendary tenor Gastón Vega. She loves spending time with her family - including her dog Mateo.

2.     She has modeled for 14 years.

Aside from pageants, Vega is no stranger to the camera. She has been a model since she was 8 years old, a practice that is not uncommon in Latin America, where girls are often groomed and primped for contests at a young age, the Huffington Post reported.

3.    She's a brainiac.

In addition to her passion for modeling and competing in pageants, Vega devotes a large portion of her time studying business administration at Universidad Javeriana in Bogota. She is the daughter of a cardiologist and intelligence is important to her. She is trilingual and can speak Spanish, English and French.  Ooh la la!

4.    She sleeps with her eyes open.

This will come in handy in class. Just kidding. Vega freaked out her roommates and they couldn't tell if she was awake or not.

5.    She earned the highest scores possible in Miss Universe Colombia pageant.

Although Vega has been dubbed as a sort of "newcomer" to the pageant world, she already had a few impressive achievements under her belt...tiara? In the Miss Universe Colombia pageant, she scored 9.9 in every presentation.

"We are proud, this is a triumph, not only personal, but for all those 47 million Colombians who were dreaming with me and were part of this whole process," the beauty queen told reporters after the win, according to Business Insider.

That about sums up her modest nature.
