Pokki announced this week that it has officially partnered with Taiwanese PC maker Acer.
Pokki has been partnering with different app developers to create web-based applets compatible to Windows OS and Acer is one of their latest additions. This partnership will allow Acer to have Pokki pre-installed on the new units that they will make which will allow users to have access to web-based apps and games from their Windows desktop.
Pokki is a free application that provides mobile-like interface for apps running on Windows OS. It was initially launched in 2011 as a downloading app similar to Google Play until it officially shifted to Pokki Store in 2012 selling desktop apps for social networking sites including games. Before it introduced the Windows 8 version in August 2012, it already had 1 million active users which increased to 1.5 million when they released the new version in October 2012.
Aside from Acer, Pokki is also finalizing the deal with Zynga to offer Farmville 2, Hidden Chronicles, and Matching with Friends on their Pokki Store. Zynga is most likely to grab the deal as it is shifting to mobile-compatible apps. The good thing about Pokki is that it will only offer the user a download version that is compatible to the device which guarantees performance.
Other developers associated with Pokki are now in the works of redesigning their apps to make it Windows 8 compatible which is a good decision since Windows 8 is almost anywhere.
Pokki is famous for its Start Menu and button replacement for Windows 8 devices. Its partnership with Acer is an innovative move which other PC makers may notice especially those that were looking for additional app stores and third-party software that can improve their PCs. However, Pokki said that they don’t have plans yet of teaming up with other PC makers.
Acer has not announced yet when they will release units with Pokki in it.
