iPhone 5 Price Drop: Walmart Drops Prices of iPhone5 and 4S, A Permanent Deal

It is not yet confirmed if the decision was made due to rumors of iPhone 5S or iPhone 6 coming out this fall but Walmart confirmed that the iPhone 5 and 4S are now both $50 off. The great thing about it was that it is not just a weekend sale but is a permanent deal.

Apple’s iPhone 5 and 4S selling at $189 and $89 respectively dropped to $139 and $39. This is just available though if you sign up a two-year contract with Sprint, Verizon, or AT&T. Buyers should also visit the nearest Walmart because the deal is not available online.

This price drop may raise questions from Apple itself as the iPad maker had previously set a limit on how low retailers can slash the prices. Walmart had previously done a $10 off deal but this latest move is remarkable as it trimmed almost 30 percent of the device’s original price. Apple had not given any feedback yet about this price drop though.

Competitors may also be under pressure right now especially Walmart’s arch rival Best Buy. Let us see how low they can trim the prices or if they would match Walmart’s latest offering.

Walmart had not given an account yet why they decided to drop the prices but rumors said that it is possible that the retailer may still have a lot on their inventory and would like to dispose them before the newest iPhone comes out or simply wanted to increase its sales.

If Walmart’s competitors are now under pressure, so are Apple’s competitors. Nokia Lumia and Blackberry may have to think of revamping their sales plan now as the iPhones are now cheaper than them after the cut.

People looking to have an iPhone but couldn’t afford the original price would be very happy about this price drop. Such a great weekend indeed.
