Good news for T-Mobile subscribers and something to think about for non-subscribers—Sony Xperia Z is coming soon available to T-Mobile customers only.
Last month, Sony chief executive officer Kaz Hirai confirmed at the D11 conference that they are bringing Xperia Z in the U.S soon. Now, they are fulfilling the promise with a catch.
T-Mobile announced today that they have successfully obtained exclusive rights to carry Xperia Z, Sony’s flagship android smartphone. It will be bundled on their Simple Choice plan with 4G LTE but they refused to disclose the exact release date and the price. However, there were rumors saying it will be this summer. As for the pricing, there were rumors that it may be the same price of Samsung Galaxy S4 which means it can reach $650 with but if bundled with T-Mobile, the cash-out for device is likely between $99 and $150.
Many got excited when Sony Xperia Z was presented during the Mobile World Congress primarily because of its water-resistant design. It also uses Sony’s technology found in their TVs and cameras. This smartphone is comparible to Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One in terms of performance but Sony is not that popular in the country. Hirai admitted this problem and hoped that their partnership with T-Mobile can increase the brand’s likability.
Meanwhile, the device will be available in two colors—black and purple. It has a 5-inch screen with 1080p HD Reality Display using Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 technology, a 13-megapixel camera with Exmor RS for Mobile, and as you can see in the picture above, it is water resistant.
In other countries, the market for Sony Xperia Z is quite strong. In Japan, it sold 150,000 units in one week taking away 24 percent of the smartphone market share. T-Mobile has 43 million subscribers to date so let’s see how far Sony Xperia Z can reach out to them. T-Mobile may win the situation too as this may mean new customers for them.
