A Back Bay resident paid over half a million dollars for two parking spots according to Gawker.
Parking in the favorable neighborhood is tough and residents began a bidding war at an auction held by the Internal Revenue Service over "tandem spots that were seized by the IRS from a man who owed $600,000 in back taxes." According to reports the initial asking price for the parking spots was $42,000.
According to The Boston Globe, Lisa Blumenthal paid a whopping $560,000 for the parking spots on 298 Commonwealth Avenue. The neighborhood is allegedly known for their prestigious parking. According to reports, a nearby parking spot sold for $200,000 in 2012. Fox News reports the "record for a single spot in Boston is $300,000."
The Globe reported the bidding increased in "$10,000 increments" and Blumenthal reigned victorious in 15-minuets.
"This is just entertainment at this point," a witness said.
Blumenthal allegedly wasn't expecting the price of the two parking spots to increase as high as it did but seemed satisfied with her purchase.
"It was a little more heated than I thought it would have been," she said.
The woman was bidding against an unidentified man who refused to pay more than half a million dollars for the parking spots.
"I really wanted them, but there was a limit," the man told The Globe.
A parking spot in San Francisco reportedly joined the Back Bay parking spot on the list of expensive parking spots when it sold for $82,000.
"We had a very good response right out of the gate," Sean Sullivan, the realtor who sold the spot, told the media. "It was only in the market two weeks."
The buyer to the $82,000 parking spot was unavailable for comment.
