One could only imagine the process it takes to transform into a superhero and Henry Cavill describes the long process it took for him to transform into Superman for his newest film "Man of Steel."
According to People, who recently spoke with the star at the film's premiere in New York City, he called it "a very, very long and involved process."
The process went in several stages, all of which were painful.
"Five months before shooting there was varying stuff which ended up being mass building and then leaning down," the British actor said. "Throughout the shoot it was just waking up and making sure I got an hour in [of exercise] before I went to work."
It did not only require large amounts of exercise but the 30-year old described going through "a horrible eating phase ... where we really, really leaned down. It was exhausting."
"They didn't force me to give anything up," Cavill said. "They just cut my calories right down to 2,500 [a day]. And keep in mind, only a few months ago I'd been up to 5,000. So it was a big drop."
Despite the tremendous workouts and diet, Cavill admitted "it was hard but it paid off."
After everything was over, Cavill was able to eat anything once again and decided to celebrated by eating "an apple pie, a tub of ice cream and a full pizza."
"Man of Steel" opens in theaters today and even after the Thursday night and midnight screenings, the film has grossed $21 million and is expected to rake in close to $100 million this weekend, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
