We never thought Robert Kirkman would do it. On the midseason finale of "The Walking Dead" Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) was killed. During a prisoner exchange between Rick's group and the officers at the hospital, Dawn shot Beth in the head instantly killing her.

If you follow the endless "Walking Dead" rumors, the death wasn't much of a surprise but it was still heartbreaking. We had grown to really like the character and she had definitely started to earn her place in the group.

Beth was finally starting to become a strong character but we think she may have been planning her death the entire time. Tensions were already high at Grady Memorial Hospital, where Beth had been held for the past couple of episodes.

She wasn't getting along with Dawn and tried to escape a few episodes back. (Her attempts to leave helped Noah, played by Tyler James Williams, escape the hospital and find Rick and the others). During the midseason finale, titled "Coda," Beth must have known that lunging at Dawn with a pair of scissors would get her killed.

She probably also knew that there was no way Rick and the others would let Dawn live if she killed Beth. It was very noble of Beth but still very sad. It's going to be interesting to see how everyone handles the death when "The Walking Dead" returns in February.

Kinney spoke to TV Line after the episode aired and said she found out in August that her character would be killed but filming the scenes was really hard.

"I wasn't ready for it to be over," she said. "I think the Beth character, in particular... more could've been done with a teenager growing up [in that world]. I did not see it coming at all," especially this season. It's weird, because I would've been ok with [this happening] in the second season or the third season, when I was like, 'Oh, maybe this character is coming to a close. What else is there to do with her?' But now I feel differently... I feel like there was still so much to do [explore[, like, what could have happened with Daryl."
