Ford Motor Company, the second-largest U.S.-based automaker, recorded the best retail sales in the last seven years. Sales rose up to 14 percent in May compared to the previous year.
Ford had the best sales month in May this year. Record-setting sales of Ford Fusion, Ford Escape, F-series and Lincoln MKZ were seen compared to the previous years. Fuel-efficient Fusion and Escape continued to rise in sales for the fourth month in a row. Overall, sales of Ford in the United States jumped 14 percent in May, while the retail sales grew 17 percent marking the best sales month in the since 2006, according to the company's press release.
Across Ford dealerships in the United States, Ford Fusion hit strong sales with 29,553, mostly in the western and the southeastern parts of the nation. Ford Escape crossover SUV delivered the best month ever, selling 29,123 vehicles marking a 26 percent rise compared to last year.
"Our fuel-efficient Fusion and Escape have set monthly sales records for four straight months," Ken Czubay, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service, said in a press statement. "F-Series sales - fueled by construction growth and pent-up demand - reached their highest level in more than six years."
Furthermore, Ford F-Series, full size pickup trucks, delivered a 31 percent increase in May since 2005. F-Series is America's best selling pick-up vehicle for the last 36 years. The F-Series sales continue to rise for 22 months in a row. Ford sold 71,604 F-Series in May 2013.
Ford Lincoln MKZ sales also saw a sharp increase of 42 percent since last year, which also recorded the best-ever May sales, after its record-breaking sales in April.
The Ford Fusion has been one of the most favorable midsize sedans in the U.S. for its fuel-efficient engine, comfortable ride and unique style. Powered by 1.6 L engine, the Ford Fusion is estimated to achieve an overall 28 mpg with 23 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. Ford Escape also received appreciation for its qualities. The redesigned interior, ample space for passengers and cargo along with fold-down seats and high-quality materials gives the passengers a pleasurable experience. It is estimated to achieve up to 33 mpg on the highway.
The Michigan-based company also said that it would increase the vehicle production by 10 percent from the third quarter in 2013. It aims to deliver 740,000 vehicles in its 2013 third-quarter.
