Buffalo Bills receiver Mike Williams requested permission to seek out a trade after he was a healthy scratch from the team's Week 6 loss to the New England Patriots.

Coach Doug Marrone said the decision had to do with roster composition, opting to instead go with three tight ends.

"Mike Williams' situation was really a tough call," Marrone said. "... The process to go about it, we were really surprised that [Kyle Williams] was able to play, which was good. I brought Mike in on Saturday and told him I needed him to do this for the team. I said it's not a great situation, but due to the special teams and everything we needed to cover, we talked to him and he handled it like a pro. And he'll be ready to go next week."

Now, it appears that the New York Giants may have interest in the fifth-year pass catcher. Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reported that the Giants have "some" interest in Williams. This doesn't come as a huge surprise after the Giants lost star receiver Victor Cruz for the season because of a knee injury suffered on Sunday.

The Giants must be willing to give the Bills some form of compensation along with assuming a contract that is set to pay Williams $5.2 million next year. No reports have been made yet regarding what the Bills are seeking in return for Williams.

New York currently lists Rueben Randle, Odell Beckham Jr., Preston Parker and Corey Washington as the only healthy receivers on the active roster.

Williams has eight receptions for 142 yards and one touchdown this season.
