Katie Couric Today: TV Personality Talks to Howard Stern About Being Approached to Return to Morning Show [VIDEO]

Katie Couric sat down with Howard Stern on his radio show on Tuesday to talk about her crush on Matt Lauer, the infamous Sarah Palin interview and how she was quietly approached to return to the "Today" show.

The television personality and journalist spoke to Stern about "some cautious overtures to possibly" return to her gig as anchorwoman after reports that ratings had been struggling to keep the morning show above water.

Couric said she's spoken to Lauer about reuniting some time in the future, and how appreciative she was for working with him on the show saying that, for her, "that was the best job."

The "Today" show took a big hit after Ann Curry's abrupt and tearful departure, which not only confused viewers, but led to a lost of millions in advertising as marketers made a desperate attempt to distance themselves from the show's failing image.

Upon Curry's leaving, Couric released a statement saying she felt terrible about the whole thing and understood the changes were hard on everyone.

"It really broke my heart...to see Ann [leave], because I know she's suffering and is feeling a lot of pain with this transition, and I know that it's really hard for everyone on the show," Couric said to The Hollywood Reporter. "I still have a lot of friends that I made over those 15 years on the 'Today' show, and this kind of tumult is really hard for everyone."

Currently, Couric is the host of her own syndicated daytime television program where she explores "entertainment, information and the stories of each day in a way that is engaging and compelling. On the show, Katie tackles a wide range of issues - some of them important, some of them just plain fun."
