Indiana prosecutors have charged an 18-year-old man with the murder of a veteran United Airlines flight attendant who was found dead on Monday in the trunk of a car.
Damarius Wren, who is reportedly the boyfriend of the victim's daughter, was charged Friday for knowingly or intentionally killing 54-year-old DeCarol Deloney-Cain, CBS Chicago reported.
Deloney-Cain was found dead wrapped in plastic garbage bags in the trunk of her 2008 Toyota Solara in a wooded area near 22nd Place and Missouri Street in Gary. A pillow case was placed over the victim's head.
She was stabbed six times and suffered blunt force trauma to the head, according to the Lake County Coroner.
Wren was arrested after Deloney-Cain's 17-year-old daughter called police and said she found a bloody wrench and a stain in the basement of her mother's home, according to CBS Chicago.
Police searched the home to find a vacuum that was apparently used to clean Deloney-Cain's blood. Garbage bags resembling the ones used were also found, as well as red duck tape similar to the tape that was wrapped around the victim's hands and feet.
It is not yet clear why the murder took place. Investigators said the daughter was in the home when Wren attacked her mother, according to court documents obtained by NBC Chicago.
On July 3, Wren reportedly went into a rage and put a pillow case over Deloney-Cain's head before bashing her head into the basement's staircase. He then got a knife and repeatedly stabbed her.
Wren also allegedly called two friends to help him dispose of the body. The daughter, whose name has not been released, admitted to following Wren in a separate car to the wooded area where her mother was found, CBS Chicago reported.
The victim's son was the first to report the flight attendant missing when her job called and said she did not show up for work last Sunday. Deloney-Cain, from Crown Point, had worked for United Airlines for 25 years.
As of Saturday no charges have been brought against the daughter. Wren is being held without bond, according to NBC Chicago.
