Adidas to Sell Fit Smart Fitness Tracking Device For $199

Adidas has unveiled its Fit Smart fitness tracking device, a new wrist accessory that serves as a training coach rather than an activity tracker. Intended to be worn while exercising, it measures physical activities and beyond.

Tje devoce not only measures the wearer's heart rate, it also calculates the amount of calories burned, and tracks pace, distance, and stride rate of applicable activities such as jogging. The LED array on the wristband gives instant feedback on how hard the user is working based on a custom heart rate threshold. The LED lights, which indicate intensity levels, change from blue, green, and yellow, to red.

The custom heart rate threshold is based on the workout that Fit Smart users set after testing their stamina level. Knowing one's fitness levels and working with the colored intensity zones of the wristband forms the basis of Fit Smart's training feature. The gadget works with the Adidas' MiCoach app, which includes features such as training plans and different workout options, which are available on other fitness-tracking apps.

The MiCoach app lets the user set his or her workouts and goals. It also makes sure that the person spends time in each of the four workout regiments and levels of intensity. The app automatically tracks one's progress.

The Adidas Fit Smart will launch in August at a retail price of $199, The Verge reported. That number is a bit higher than the competition's, but with all the exclusive features that it offers, it's not surprising that the price tag is a little heftier.

"What we did, by working with elite coaches, was bring an experience to help people set weekly goals and training plans," Paul Gaudio, GM of digital sports at Adidas, told Engadget. "We took the things that have been very successful and implemented them here with the Fit Smart."
