U.S President Barrack Obama has joined the question and answer website, Quora, where he will answer queries about the Affordable Care Act.
The president is the first member of the website to have a "Verified" status, confirming that he is the President and not someone else pretending to be him. The White House also confirmed that it was the President who answers the questions and not his staff. The president was given questions that were submitted and collected by other Quora users.
"As we continue our efforts to enroll as many Americans as possible for quality, affordable health insurance ahead of the March 31st deadline, the President's goal is to meet people - especially young adults - where they are," a quote from the President's profile stated as reported by USA Today.
As a website, Quora functions as a platform where users can post questions and answers about any topic under the sun. The questions and the answers are organized and edited by the same community. To date, there are 500,000 topics being discussed on Quora since they made their debut in June 2010.
According to Alex Wu, the head of product marketing and partnerships for Quora, other public figures and known personalities will have their accounts verified starting today.
"We think the president answering questions about his signature health care law is the ultimate Quora experience," Wu told USA Today.
Other people who are using Quora include Craig Newmark, Sheryl Sandberg, Alfonso Cuaron, Ashton Kutcher, Cory Brooker, and Michael Buble. Wu explained that the process of giving out verified profiles will be done in a gradual manner. There is a formal application to have the accounts verified, but Wu explained that those who want to have their accounts verified should link their Quora accounts to their LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter profiles.
Obama has been active in different social media platforms for his political campaigns. He has verified accounts in Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and YouTube. He even has his own official website barackobama.com.
